A neck lift (lower rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jaw and neck area. It addresses loose skin and fat beneath the chin and neck, horizontal banding on the neck, and helps create a more defined jawline and neck contour. Often performed alongside a facelift, a neck lift delivers a dramatically more youthful and refined profile.
Blood tests, medical evaluation, and pre-surgical skin assessment. Patients stop blood-thinning medications and quit smoking before surgery.
Performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. The procedure typically takes 1–3 hours depending on the extent of correction.
Small incisions behind the ears and/or under the chin allow the surgeon to remove excess fat, tighten neck muscles (platysma), and remove or redrape excess skin.
Swelling and bruising typically resolve in 2–3 weeks. A supportive bandage or compression garment is worn for comfort. Most patients resume normal activities within 2 weeks.
