A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. It addresses deep creases around the nose and mouth, jowls along the jawline, double chin, and loose skin. While a facelift cannot stop the natural aging process, it effectively turns back the clock by 10–15 years, providing a more rested, youthful appearance.
Medical history review, blood tests, and skin assessment. Medications that thin blood are stopped. Smoking must be ceased well in advance of surgery.
General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is used. The procedure typically takes 2–4 hours depending on the extent of correction needed.
Incisions are made along the hairline and around the ears. Underlying facial muscles and tissue are tightened, excess fat is removed or repositioned, and skin is redraped and sutured.
Initial swelling and bruising resolve within 2–3 weeks. Most patients return to social activities within 2–4 weeks. Final results are fully visible after 3–6 months.
