A body lift is an extensive surgical procedure to improve the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin by removing excess sagging fat and skin. It is most commonly performed on people who have undergone massive weight loss — either through bariatric surgery or diet and exercise. The result is a more toned, proportioned body contour. A lower body lift addresses the buttocks, abdomen, waist, hips, and outer thighs simultaneously.
A thorough medical assessment, nutritional evaluation, and discussion of surgical goals. The surgeon will map out all targeted areas and plan the sequence of procedures.
Performed under general anesthesia. A full lower body lift can take 4–8 hours. It may be staged across multiple sessions for safety and optimal results.
A belt-like incision is made around the entire body. Excess skin and fat are excised from multiple areas simultaneously, and remaining tissue is redraped and sutured for a smooth contour.
Recovery takes 3–6 weeks for initial healing, with full recovery over several months. Compression garments are essential. Physical activity gradually increases over 6–8 weeks.
