A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure to raise, reshape, and firm up sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissue. Unlike breast augmentation, it does not significantly change the size of the breasts. However, it can be combined with augmentation or reduction for comprehensive reshaping. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, and weight fluctuations can all cause breasts to lose their shape and firmness, which a breast lift corrects.
Breast measurements, photographs, and health assessment. The surgeon marks the new nipple position and plans incision patterns based on your breast shape and degree of sagging.
Breast lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately 2–3 hours.
Incisions are made around the areola and possibly vertically down to the breast crease. Excess skin is removed, underlying breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipple/areola is repositioned higher.
A surgical bra is worn for 4–6 weeks. Most patients return to light activities within 1 week and full activities within 4–6 weeks. Scars fade significantly over 1–2 years.
