Mole Removal
A mole is often referred to as any irregularity or dark spot in the skin. Melanocytes are the pigment-producing cells, and when they get concentrated at a particular place in the skin, they appear as moles. In medical terms, moles are known as nevi. It is derived from the Latin nomenclature for birthmark. There are often similar dark marks in the skin such as hemangiomas and keratoses, but the mole removal procedure differs from the treatment procedure of these skin disorders.
There may be several causes for the formation of moles. Overexposure to the sun may result in the formation of moles. Dysplastic or atypical moles may also form depending on the amount of exposure. People are often born with moles while in some cases moles may appear at a later stage in life. Moles can also be formed due to genetic reasons. People who have lighter skin tone are prone to getting more number of moles than the darker complexioned individuals.
Moles are generally benign in nature and do not require treatment, but they do give you an odd-looking appearance. Moles are mostly removed for aesthetic reasons but sometimes they also uneasiness when they get rubbed against clothing.
The mole removal surgery requires local anaesthesia and depending on the size and depth of the mole; it is decided whether it requires stitches or not.
After the surgery, a layer of bandage and petroleum jelly must be applied on the wound, and daily cleaning with hydrogen peroxide is a must.
