Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is the surgical procedure of rejuvenating the areas surrounding the eye. This method can be used to enhance the appearance of eyelids. This surgery can be performed on either or both of the eyelids. For the upper eyelid, an incision is made parallel to the crease of the eyelid, while for the lower eyelid the cut is made just underneath, the lower lash line. Excess skin can be removed through these incisions, and fat layers can be removed or repositioned.
One must go for blepharoplasty when he finds wrinkles caused due to excess skin on the lower eyelids, puffy eyelids caused due to fat depositions, sagging and loose skin that causes folds on eyelids or floppy lower eyelids.
However, this surgery has some associated side effects. Dryness in the eyes, bruising and swelling of eyes, bleeding, sensitivity to bright light, lid lag, and difficulty in closing the eyes are some of the common side effects that can be noticed after blepharoplasty. Irritation at the incised surfaces can also be noticed.
Postoperative care includes the application of ointments, cold water, and controlled medications. It is advisable to wear black sunglasses until you achieve a complete recovery.
After a certain period of time, the side effects will subside and will leave you with better-shaped eyelids and smooth rejuvenated appearance. The result of this surgery is permanent.
